AFC Slams Injunction Against Nevada ESA Program

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, issued the following statement in response to Nevada District Court Judge James Wilson’s decision to grant an injunction against the Nevada education savings account program.
“We’re very disappointed in today’s ruling against the children of Nevada – the legislature’s intent was clear, legally sound and as polling has found – has the strong and overwhelming support from the citizens of Nevada,” Matt Frendewey, national communications director at the American Federation for Children. “To date, more than 4,100 parents have risen up in Nevada and demanded access to this revolutionary education program and we remain confident that this decision is only a temporary setback.”
The judge’s decision temporarily blocks the program from being administered and will prevent children who have applied from receiving access to funds to pay for an education chosen by their parents. The Nevada education savings account program allows for parents to use their education tax dollars to send their child to a school of their choice or customize their child’s education to best meet his or her needs. The revolutionary program is the broadest program in the country — and available to any child who has attended Nevada public schools for at least 100 days.
