AFC praises Gov. Ducey and his plan to expand high-quality educational opportunities to Arizona children
PHOENIX (Jan. 12, 2015) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, applauds Gov. Doug Ducey for making education policy a centerpiece of his inaugural State of the State address this afternoon. Ducey made it clear that the quality of a child’s education should not be determined by the neighborhood in which a child’s family can afford to live, and Ducey added that the “one size fits all” education model traps too many children in a school that does not meet their needs.
“We look forward to working very closely with Gov. Ducey as he leads the way toward building education opportunities for each and every child in Arizona,” said Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children. “Gov. Ducey is very committed to the future of the state and understands how crucial it is to empower all families with access to quality educational options.”
Arizona continues to serve as a national leader in education reform by offering parents a variety of educational options. Arizona’s innovative Empowerment Scholarship Accounts program allows families who qualify to create a customized educational experience for their child. More than 40,000 families benefit from Arizona’s individual or corporate tuition tax credit programs that provide students with scholarships to attend a private school of their parents’ choice.
“Gov. Ducey has innovative ideas on how to improve the education system in Arizona,” added DeVos. “It’s an exciting time for the state and we are confident the children of Arizona will truly benefit from his leadership.”
