Long time school choice champion and leader passes away
Washington, D.C. (May 29, 2015) – Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, issued the following statement upon learning Martin Duggan, long time champion for school choice, had passed away:
“Our hearts are saddened with the news that Martin Duggan has passed away. He was a kind, gentle and committed champion for school choice who, together with his wife Mae, helped spearhead what has become a nationwide school choice movement. Undoubtedly, millions of children nationwide benefited from Martin’s generosity, determination and commitment to improving our nation’s education system and certainly all of us in the educational choice movement will forever be indebted to him. Today, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Mae and all of the Duggan family.”
In 2005, Martin and Mae Duggan were awarded the John T. Walton Champions for Choice award as founders of the modern school choice movement.
