AFC expresses disappointment in Colorado Supreme Court ruling against the Douglas County Choice Scholarship Program

Today the Colorado Supreme Court ruled against the Douglas County Choice Scholarship Program, denying hundreds of students the opportunity to attend the school of their parents’ choice. Since the program was passed in 2011, it has faced drawn out legal challenges so the program was never able to serve children in Douglas County.
“We are deeply disappointed in the Court’s ruling and what it means for children in Douglas County and the entire state of Colorado,” said Kevin P. Chavous, executive counsel of the American Federation for Children. “We are saddened that the Court decided to take power away from parents to make education decisions on behalf of their children.”
