AFC Congratulates Wisconsin School Choice Champions on Their Primary Victories
Washington, D.C. (August 13, 2014) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, congratulates Wisconsin State Representative Leon Young and Assembly candidates Todd Novak and David Steffen for their impressive victories in Tuesday’s primaries. All three candidates were supported by the American Federation for Children Action Fund – Wisconsin IE Committee.
“On behalf of Wisconsin children and their families who support educational choice, we congratulate David Steffen, Todd Novak and State Representative Leon Young on their well-earned election victories,” said Betsy DeVos, Chairman of the American Federation for Children. “Wisconsin was the birthplace of innovative educational choice and AFC remains committed to defending and expanding educational options for the children across the state.”
Leon Young won his Democratic primary in the 16th Assembly District. David Steffen won the Republican primary in the 4th Assembly District. The Republican primary in the 51st Assembly District was won by Todd Novak.
AFC also notes that additional races saw prominent school choice supporters come out on top. In one noteworthy contest, Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr. won a hotly contested Democratic primary race for Milwaukee County Sheriff.
“Supporters of educational choice serve in prominent positions throughout the state and their success bodes well for Wisconsin’s children.” said DeVos.
