AFC Congratulates Speaker Paul Ryan
New Speaker has proven record fighting for educational choice
The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, congratulates Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) on his election as Speaker of the House by his colleagues earlier today.
“Rep. Paul Ryan is a fearless champion for parental choice, and believes in empowering parents by ensuring children have access to quality educational options,” said Betsy DeVos, chairman of the American Federation for Children. “We look forward to working closely with Speaker Ryan as we break down the barriers limiting parental choice, work to protect the vital D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program and enact an education policy that transfers power from bureaucrats to parents.”
Ryan has previously spoken strongly in favor of parental choice and voted in favor of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program, the nation’s only federally funded private school choice program. AFC also praised outgoing Speaker of the House, John Boehner.
“Speaker Boehner demonstrated the positive impact of funding what works in education,” added DeVos. “We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Speaker Boehner for his commitment to providing quality options and a great education to every child no matter their family’s income or background.”
Speaker Boehner is scheduled to formally resign on Friday.
American Federation for Children is the nation’s leading school choice advocacy organization and works in states across the country to help secure additional, high-quality educational options for families.
