AFC Congratulates John Jagler, Urges Underly to Prioritize Wisconsin Kids

The American Federation for Children congratulates Wisconsin Senate District 13 candidate John Jagler on tonight’s victory in the special election. Jagler has been a stalwart school choice champion and author of the state’s special needs scholarship program.

In the race for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jill Underly defeated Deb Kerr. Underly, who outspent Kerr by a margin in excess of four-to-one, has been an outspoken opponent of educational choice. The American Federation for Children urges Underly to prioritize children and families over special interests as new Education Chief.

Statement from Justin Moralez, Wisconsin State Director for the American Federation for Children:

“First, we want to recognize and celebrate Representative Jagler for his win tonight. His record is one of putting children first. We look forward to continuing to work together with him in the Senate to advance educational choice in Wisconsin and support the thousands of families whose lives have been and can be improved through educational opportunity.

“We recognize the hard-fought battle for State Superintendent and thank the thousands of families who voted on behalf of the fundamental right for parents to choose the best education option for their child. School choice remains incredibly popular across all demographic groups, as evidenced by a poll released just today. We hope that, as Dr. Underly assumes the role as Superintendent, she will recognize that children from lower-income families deserve the same opportunities that she herself was privileged enough to enjoy and to provide to her own children through school choice.”
