American Federation for Children Releases 6th Annual National School Choice Poll
The 2020 edition of the American Federation for Children’s annual National School Choice Poll from Beck Research shows tremendously strong support for school choice and specific policies at the federal and state levels. Overall, the results show that 69% of voters support the concept of school choice and 78% support Education Freedom Scholarships—legislation before Congress championed by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and sponsored by Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Bradley Byrne.
Statement from John Schilling, President of the American Federation of Children:
“This national survey is the premier benchmark for school choice opinion research across the country, and voters have consistently stated that they support these policies and want more K-12 options for their children. We fundamentally believe that every family, especially lower-income families, should have the freedom to choose the best K-12 education for their child—and the vast majority of Americans agree with us.
“Education Freedom Scholarships showed the sharpest increase in support compared to last year, and state Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) have grown in support each year for the past 5 years. This year’s results also show that 58% of voters are less likely to support a presidential candidate that wants to eliminate federal charter school funding. Policymakers should take note that voters are crystal clear in their support for all forms of educational choice and will oppose politicians who would take those educational options away from families who desperately need them.”
