Legislators Pass Expansion for Arizona's Most Important School Choice Programs

PHOENIX, AZ (Jun 15, 2013) -The American Federation for Children, the nation's voice for educational choice, today praised the Arizona Legislature for passing two educational choice bills that will greatly improve educational options for thousands of Arizona families. Senate Bill 1363 expands the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program to include kindergartners who were previously excluded from the program and expands the scholarship amount for qualifying children. House Bill 2617 improves the Corporate Tax Credit, allowing qualifying small businesses to donate to the tuition tax credit program. Both laws now await Gov. Jan Brewer's signature.
North Carolina House Passes Educational Choice Program

The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, today applauded the North Carolina House of Representatives for passing a budget that provides funding for an educational choice program creating new opportunities for thousands of North Carolinian children. NJ Ed Commissioner Denies Children Innovative Educational Options

(June 7, 2013) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, today criticized the New Jersey Education Commissioner Chris Cerf for depriving students of vital educational options by refusing to authorize two virtual new charter schools. Both charter schools had received conditional approval and spent a year ensuring they met every requirement, only to have Cerf deny their approval.
Bipartisan Support Restores Louisiana Scholarship Program Funding

(June 6, 2013) — The American Federation for Children, the nation's voice for educational choice, today applauded bipartisan members of the Louisiana Legislature for ensuring the Louisiana Scholarship Program will be fully funded for the 2013-2014 school year. Nearly 8,000 students have been awarded a scholarship to attend a school of their parents’ choice.
