AFC announces Dr. Sugata Mitra as keynote speaker at national policy summit

Washington D.C. (April 22, 2014) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, is pleased to announce Dr. Sugata Mitra will speak at the 5th Annual AFC National Policy Summit, #EdRevolution: Breaking Down Barriers to Educational Choice. Dr. Mitra is a Professor of Educational Technology at Newcastle University and winner of the 2013 TED Global Prize for his vision to build a school in the cloud where children can learn from one another.  

Kansas becomes 19th school choice state, 40th program

Washington, DC (April 22, 2014) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, today celebrates Kansas for becoming the 19th state and 40th program nationally to offer low-income and special needs children educational choice. Gov. Sam Brownback (R-KS) signed the scholarship tax credit program into law yesterday, among other educational reforms and funding increases.

(April 17, 2014) – The American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, is pleased to announce Arthur Brooks as a keynote speaker for the 5th Annual AFC National Policy Summit, #EdRevolution: Breaking Down Barriers to Educational Choice. Brooks is an educational choice advocate, noted author and president of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). He will speak Wednesday, May 21. 

Ariz. Legislature passes bill allowing small businesses to provide scholarships for low-income children

PHOENIX (April 16, 2014) – The Arizona Federation for Children, the state’s voice for educational choice, applauds Arizona Legislators who voted in favor of allowing S-Corporations to participate in a scholarship program for children in low-income families.

SB1048, sponsored by Sen. Steve Yarbrough, gives small businesses the option of a dollar-for-dollar tax credit in exchange for their donations to the state’s school tuition organizations, or STOs—non-profit organizations that direct 90 percent of their revenue into scholarships for children who otherwise could not afford to attend a private school of their parents' choice.
