The American Federation for Children is the leading national advocacy organization promoting school choice, with a specific focus on advocating for school vouchers, scholarship tax credit programs and Education Savings Accounts. The American Federation for Children is a 501(c)(4) organization. We are affiliated with the American Federation for Children Action Fund, a political committee that supports and opposes state-level candidates for elected office, and we work closely with our educational partner, the Alliance for School Choice, a 501(c)(3) organization, to promote the benefits of—and the need for—school choice.

Mission

The American Federation for Children and the Alliance for School Choice seek to improve our nation’s K-12 education by advancing systemic and sustainable public policy that empowers parents, particularly those in low-income families, to choose the education they determine is best for their children.

Vision

The American Federation for Children (AFC) seeks the fundamental transformation of public education by breaking down barriers to educational choice. We believe public education must be defined as providing families with the public funding they need to choose the education they determine is best for their children.

The American Federation for Children envisions an education system where parents are empowered to choose the best educational environment for their child, where innovation and entrepreneurism revolutionizes our education system, ensuring all children, especially low-income children, are provided with the opportunity to receive the finest education possible, whether it be in a traditional public school, public charter school, virtual learning, private school, home school or blended learning.

What We Do

The American Federation for Children focuses its time and resources on supporting state-level efforts to provide low-income and middle class families with access to great schools through publicly-funded private school choice. We also work strategically with school choice allies in the charter school community. The family of school choice includes school vouchers, scholarship tax credit programs, Education Savings Accounts, public charter schools, virtual charter schools, home schools, and meaningful public school choice.

We advocate at the grassroots and grasstops levels, and directly to legislators in favor of a wide range of school choice initiatives. We also fight against bills and regulatory changes that would hurt existing school choice programs.
